Here at the Academy, we have several sporting disciplines including football, netball, volleyball, basketball and athletics. Every year, we have inter-house sports competitions where Nyika, Vwaza, Kasitu and Vizara go toe-to-toe to see which house reigns supreme. These events are categorised into athletics, usually 100 metre sprint, 200 metre relay and an 800 metre marathon. We also have the usual football, netball, volleyball and basketball games with miscellaneous activities such as egg and sack race thrown in for good fun. These houses compete within their key stages from key stage one to key stage four.
When we are not competing inter-house, our teams participate in national and regional tournaments. This year, our teams participated in in various tournaments such as the MASSA games, the NBS ladies tournament, Mzuzu Bonanza Tournament and FISD Mzuzu International Tournament. We also participated in the under 20 national volleyball and basketball camp, where 9 of our students were selected in both disciplines.
In the short time that we have existed, we have had great success in some sporting disciplines. Notably in volleyball where we were the won the Raiply Volleyball Tournament in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and came in third in the 2022 Mzuzu Bonanza Tournament. It is our goal to follow up these successes with more achievements in the coming years, because we believe that excellence should not only be academic but in any area a student shows potential.
